Originally named the Skydome, the Rogers Centre is located at 1 Blue Jays Way in Ontario, Canada, with a maximum seating capacity for 53,506 for games and smaller configurations to optimise audience experience for concerts. The venue is currently home to the Toronto Blue Jays basketball team. Officially opened in 1989 after 2 and a half years of construction, the project cost $978 million, paid for by the federal government, Ontario provincial government, the City of Toronto, and several corporations. A crowd of over 50,000 showed up for the opening ceremony, which was broadcast as "The Opening of SkyDome: A Celebration” on CBC television. Rogers Communications, the parent company of the Blue Jays, took over ownership of the SkyDome in November 2004 and the venue was from then on known as the Rogers Centre. Since its opening, the Rogers Centre has hosted some of the greatest sporting, musical, cultural and inspirational events in the country.
